Let em’ fly! Montrose Challenges All Disc Golf Skills

   William Woody -

Montrose’s largest public park complex is home to an 18-hole disc golf course that is challenging to all skill levels. From start to finish the course can take up to three hours to complete.

The course can be played with a couple different ways and some holes have two to three routes and different yardages.

Course A: combined garage of 5,268 yards.

Course B: combined yardage of 6,048 yards.

Course C: combined yardage of 6,627 yards.

The course begins in Riverbottom Park and slowly ascends Sunset Mesa to the south. Good drives are critical to having reasonable approaches and makable putts. Beware of fences and roads as flying over them results in out-of-bounds. Check the weather before you go as high winds can make the mesa section of the course tough.

The course then descends the mesa with a few short holes before the layout transitions into heavily wooded areas. Water comes into play starting on hole 11.

Leaving the woods the course finishes with a few holes that skirt the bottom of the mesa. Scrub oak trees and sage brush can make finding your disc tricky.

Remember to bring plenty of water and have fun!
